A parking space opposite Harrods is for sale at £ 250,000
A parking space is for sale at a price slightly lower than the average price of a house in the UK.
The space, across from Harrods in Knightsbridge, is on the market for £ 250,000.
However, it’s still too small to fit some vehicles, especially the high-end ones often found in the area.
It spans 8.2 feet by 13.8 feet in total, which is actually smaller than the UK average of 7.8 feet by 15.7 feet.
This means that super cars like a £ 364,000 Rolls Royce Phantom or a £ 270,000 Lamborghini Aventador will be too big to fit in the box.
The 34-square-foot space sits in a private gated car park in the opulent West London district – but alongside the sky-high price tag, the new owner will also have to shell out £ 780 a year in service charges.
Located in the car park on rue Basilic, the space is accessible at any time of the day and a 24-hour security guard is present at the entrance.
But anyone considering buying it must live a quarter of a mile from the parking lot.
Speaking about the announcement, realtor Knight Frank said, “Basil Street is minutes from the world-class hotels, restaurants, luxury boutiques, shops, amenities and museums that the area has to offer.
‘Conveniently located across from Harrods, the Basil Street car park was built in the early 2000s and benefits from both separate entrances and exits from Basil Street, private pedestrian access from Basil Street via an elevator for owners of parking spaces, 24-hour remote access, as well as 24-hour security.
For context, the average UK house price is around £ 267,587 – according to a recent index. This space therefore costs only £ 17,000 less.
However, Chancellor Johnny Thalassites, of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, points out that the price of the ad is maddening for those looking to buy property.
He said: ‘We are in desperate need of housing and as a borough with some of the most expensive land and property in the UK.
“It is very frustrating to see a six figure price on a parking space and discouraging for those looking to climb the property ladder.”
It is also not the first of its kind.
Another parking space in the same building – which was slightly narrower but longer than the current list – was also sold for £ 250,000 in 2016.
