The new Force Gurkha was eventually launched in India, and just like its main rival, the Mahindra Thar, even the Force Gurkha evolved as an off-road lifestyle. The Gurkha 2021 retains its boxy silhouette but looks a bit more upscale than its predecessor. The body panels and edges look more uniform now and there are new modern elements that we typically see on current models these days. Even the cabin has been completely upgraded with better materials and it has most of the features you would expect from an off-road lifestyle. The 2021 Force Gurkha is spawned by the Modular Architecture Platform and continues to be a purpose-built off-road SUV more than a lifestyle off-roader. It looks more modern and upscale now with things like the new single slat grille with Gurkha branding, Pro Edge LED headlights with integrated DRL which is a first in the segment, LED indicators, new bumpers, fog lights, new snorkel, newly designed “Shark Gill” on the fender, larger rear windshield, newly designed exterior mirrors with Khukri engraving, new black plastic coating, wheel rear door mounted emergency and LED tail lights, among others. Dimensionally wise, the new Force Gurkha measures 4,116mm in length, 1,812mm in width, 2,075mm in height, while the wheelbase amounts to 2,400mm. It will be available in five colors: red, orange, green, gray and white.
The Force Gurkha’s cabin is finished in Midnight Black with dark gray themed upholstery. It also comes with a new 4X4 shifter and lever, molded floor mat, panoramic side windows, captain’s seats, armrest for the rear passenger. There’s a new 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system from Kenwood with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and navigation with true mirroring via USB. Other creature comforts include tilt and telescopic adjustment for steering, power windows, central locking, speed-sensing door locks, one-piece rear door with wipers, front wipers variable intermittent speed, and more. In terms of safety, it benefits from features such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensor, cornering lights, one-touch lane change indicator, pressure monitoring system follow-me home & Lead me tires and headlights, among others.
Under the hood, the new Force Gurkha gets a 2.6-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that meets Mercedes-Benz BS6 standard that develops 91 hp at 3,200 rpm and 250 Nm of maximum torque at 1,400-2,400 rpm. min. Transmission options include a five-speed Mercedes G-28 manual gearbox mated to all-wheel drive (4WD) as standard. The new Force Gurkha has a crawl angle of 35 degrees while the wading capacity is rated at 700mm.
