German auto parts maker Mahle invests in solar startup Sunmaxx PVT

April 26 (Renewables Now) – German automotive supplier Mahle GmbH will become a cooperation partner and strategic investor in Dresden-based Sunmaxx PVT, which specializes in photovoltaic thermal systems for power and heat generation.

The investment is being made through newly created Mahle New Ventures, the auto parts maker said last week.

The start-up develops systems for producing electricity and heat from solar energy and hybrid modules to recover waste heat.

The partnership with Mahle should add expertise in the field of thermal management. The Stuttgart-based auto parts manufacturer has developed thermal management technology which, together with solar know-how, should open up new potentials for the development of solar systems, according to Sunmaxx PVT founder and managing director Wilhelm Stein.

Additionally, this investment will help Sunmaxx accelerate product development, expand sales channels, and prepare for mass production that is expected to start in 2023.

“With this strategic investment in Sunmaxx, we are opening up a new business area for Mahle in the renewable energy market,” said Jumana Al-Sibai, Mahle Board Member in charge of the Management Business Unit. thermal.
