Hawks arrests two for smuggling fake auto parts
The Hawks seized large amounts of counterfeit auto parts from two businesses in Gauteng.
Two people were arrested for dealing in counterfeit auto parts.
This week, the Hawks and trademark protection experts at private law firm Spoor & Fisher Attorneys seized counterfeit Ford and Volkswagen auto parts.
Hawks spokesman Lt. Col. Philani Nkwalase said they searched two businesses, one on Tungsten Street in Kempton Park and the other in Motor City in Midrand, Gauteng, where the counterfeit parts were found .
Nkwalase said he found large amounts of Ford branded and logoed car parts and accessories during the search of businesses.
“Goods with a combined value of R150,000 were seized and transported to the designated counterfeit goods depot pending the finalization of criminal and civil cases against the suspects.”
Two people aged 33 and 40 were arrested.
