LG inaugurates the SDA multi-level car park

SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday inaugurated the multi-level parking lot of Press Enclave, Lal Chowk, Srinagar.

Sinha was accompanied by the mayor, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Junaid Mattu and other officers

The highly anticipated four-storey ramp parking could accommodate 467 vehicles and more than 130 two-wheelers at a time. Parking should alleviate the problem of roadside parking in the city center by allowing people visiting the city center to have a safe place to park their vehicles.

The parking lot was built at a cost of 26.92 crore as part of the AMRUT (Mission Atal for Urban Rejuvenation and Transformation) program sponsored by the center.

The parking lot of the former State Motor Garages (SMG) has two access stairs, five elevators and a ramp, with two entry and exit points, on the Press Enclave and Abi Guzar side.

One of the officials speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration said the project was initially due to be completed in 2020 but has been delayed due to adverse circumstances and Covid.

“But we still managed to finish it at the right time. “We call on people to use the facility and to park their cars easily. There would be security guards here to watch everything, ”the official said.

“It is at a prime location. There is another parking lot in Sheikh Bagh which also has space for 430 vehicles and 50 two-wheelers. We expect this to be completed until December. There is another car park at Lal chowk with a capacity of 280 vehicles. Thus, we would have a parking space of around 1200 cars. This would alleviate the problems of parking cars at least in the city center, ”added the official.
